Head of Israel's AzIs resigns

The Beyt-Sokolov Journalist Center in Tel Aviv held the second Assembly of the Azerbaijan-Israel Association (AzIs) on June 7. AzIs founded Iosif Shagal, an Israeli MP and writer, became the Israeli Ambassador to Belarus and had to leave the organization.

The assembly was attended by Absorption Minister Sofa Landver, Minister for Information, Propaganda and Communications with Communities Yuli Edelstein, Minister for Tourism Stas Misezhnikov, MPs Faina Kirschenbaum, Alex Miller, Robert Tavyayev, Nino Abesadze, Orit Zaurets, Azerbaijani MPs Yevda Abramov and Asim Molldzade. Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Chairman of the Azerbaijani Committee for Links with Communities Nazim Ibragimov arrived for the assembly after a meeting with Israeli President Shimon Peres.

Staff of embassies and head of the Russian Cultural Center in Israel Alexander Kryukov were seen.

Journalist Victoria Dolinskaya read out a greeting letter of head of the European Congress of Azerbaijanis Samira Passel-Ismailova. The letter of head of the Forum of Russian-Speaking Jews Alexander Levin was read out. He proposed a meeting in New York.

Vice President of Kadim Shaul Mofaz, a minister who visited Azerbaijan in 2008, had his message read out.

A set of projects was realized under support of President Ilham Aliyev and the Heydar Aliyev Fund, Zakharyev said.

Landver noted the role of Azerbaijani natives in development of Israel.

Lieberman reminded that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Azerbaijan for the first time in 1996, initiating close ties between the two states. The foreign minister noted that he had returned from Baku two months ago.
