Kazakh presidency in OSCE in 2010 gives a chance for overcoming the stagnant tendencies in the organization which are frequently criticized by Russia and other CIS countries. Such opinion was expressed by secretary general of OSCE Marc Perrin de Brichambaut when answering the questions of students of BSU – reports BELTA.
Marc Perrin de Brichambaut reminded that in the beginning of 1990s very ambitions hopes at solving of actual questions of European security were connected with OSCE. “At that time Mikhail Gorbachev said: “Let Europe be our common home” but for historical reasons this aims weren’t achieved and OSCE developed not in the direction it was expected” – said secretary general.
The reasons of crisis in OSCE (when according to many experts in the organization there left only cooperation and left no security) became Yugoslav crisis and NATO expansion to the East. “In such conditions Russia started to feel itself deceived: the dialogue within OSCE didn’t delivered it’s goods and European security left unbalanced” – mentioned Marc Perrin de Brichambaut.
“Because of this Kazakh presidency in organization may give us an opportunity to overcome this crisis – secretary general supports. – Because Kazakhstan, taking into account it’s geopolitical position, may try to bring the opinions of all countries members of OSCE to each other and this way to form a new effective consensus”.
Marc Perrin de Brichambaut expressed assurance that by using OSCE as springboard Euro Union will be able to find more mutual understanding with their Eastern partners including Belarus.
