Tourism development in North Caucasus needs state support

Investors of the tourism cluster in the North Caucasus need state support, such as infrastructure development, lands, Director General of the Northern Caucasus Resorts Alexey Nevsky said at the Dagestani Economic Forum 2012.


The director general reminded about Mexico's Cancun, where only a few people used to live 30 years ago in the poorest region. Tourism development helped reduce oil dependence of the budget from 65% to 16% of the GDP. Tourism has a share of 9% in Mexico's economy.


Dmitry Mikheyev, deputy head of the Federal Agency for Tourism, said that tourism has a share of 3.4% in Russian economy. Tourism gives 50 workplaces per $1 million spent by tourists, exceeding the ratio in car industry sixfold, mining fourfold.


Nevsky pointed out that they need to improve infrastructure, remove administrative barriers, improve security, provide staff.
