Israeli president urges West to stay out of Syria

Israeli President Shimon Peres met US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and urged Western states to avoid interference in Syria, Kursor reports.

Clinton emphasized that the US still supports the peace plan of Kofi Annan, special envoy of the UN.

The UN Security Council plans to prolong the monitoring mission in mid-July. Clinton says that presence of international observers is becoming more and more dangerous.

Abdelbaset Sid, an opposition leader of the Syrian National Council, urged foreign states to take more actions than sanctions against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.

Russia and China are still opposed to intervention, fearing a schism of the Sunnis and Shiites.
