Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has met his Iraqi counterpart Khoshiyahr Zibari and denied information on resignation of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, initially announced by spokeswoman of the State Department Victoria Nuland, RIA Novosti reports.
Lavrov added that the information refers to negotiations of Assad’s resignation by Russia and France. He emphasized that no talks on the Syrian president’s resignation are held.
Moscow hopes that the UN Security Council will not discuss coups in sovereign states or unsanctioned military operations. Lavrov hopes that the US will not neglect the Security Council.
Settlement of the Syrian conflict should base on the plan of Kofi Annan.
