The government of Karachay-Cherkessia approved a new complex program
of social-economic development of the republic for 2010-2015. The
primary goal is increasing prosperity and providing high living
standards for the population, based on forming an auspicious
economic-business and social-cultural climate, Interfax reports.
The overall amount of financing available is 410.8 billion roubles.
Implementation of the program should produce a 20-25% surplus of
investments annually, production growth of 20% and a regional GDP rise
of 12%. The program also involves developing the tourist-recreational,
agricultural and innovation sectors.
Another aspect of the program is energy security in the republic and
creation of energy power to fully cover the electricity needs of the
population. Karachay-Cherkessia will open dozens of new industrial
plants, including plants producing ferro-concrete, sandwich-panels,
papercrete constructions, energy saving lightbulbs and others.
