Iran Navy thwarts pirate attack on Iranian ship

Iran's Navy has thwarted an attack by a group of pirates on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Indian Ocean off the southwestern coast of India, Press TV reports.

Iranian naval forces foiled the attack, carried out by eight pirate speedboats, on the ship, which was sailing 90 miles (145 kilometers) off India’s Cochin Port, said deputy commander for operations Rear Admiral Seyyed Mahmoud Mousavi on Wednesday.

“The pirates fled the region after their failure [to hijack the ship] and the vessel continued sailing towards its destination in complete safety,” he added.
