Russia will form the military police in 2012, RIA Novosti reports.
Postponement of military police formation has been ongoing for the last 3 years. Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov said in November 2011 that the new structure would appear in 2012.
The law on police came into force on March 1, 2011, but there was nothing mentioned about the military police. General-Lieutenant Sergey Surovikin will be the Military Police Chief.
The military police will combat army bullying and property theft. Commandant service is expected to become the first part of the military police. It was formed in August 2011 to maintain order in the army.
