Austrian embassy opened in Baku

The official opening ceremony of the Austrian embassy took place in
Baku with the presence of Austrian Foreign Minister Michael
Spindelegger, Minister of Economy Rainhold Mitter, Minister of
Information Technologies Ali Abbasov, Deputy Foreign Minister Vagif
Sadykhov, Milli Majlis deputies, cultural workers and social
representatives, APA reports.


The red ribbon was cut by Spindelegger and Ali Abasov. Abasov noted
that Azerbaijan had established links in various spheres with Austria
after gaining independence. Austria is an energy partner of
Azerbaijan. He recalled that the Azerbaijani opera by Uzeir Gadjibekov
‘Arshin Mal Alan’ was performed in Austria.


Spindelegger said in his speech that an Austrian consulate was opened
in Baku 112 years ago, which functioned as an Austrian office in the
Russian oil industry. The Austrian quartet ‘Minetti’ performed works
by Haydn, Schubert and Beethoven.
