Putin says Arab-Israeli conflict may be resolved with restoration of Palestinian political unity

Russian President Vladimir Putin is on a visit from Israel to Palestine where he met President of the Palestinian National Authority Mahmoud Abbas. The sides discussed the Palestinian-Israeli peace process where Russia is one of the four international mediators. Putin called for tolerance and the following of obligations taken up by both sides, RIA Novosti reports.

Restoration of Palestinian political unity will help resolve the conflict, the Russian president believes. The positions of Russia and Palestine in almost all key regional and global problems coincide. Putin expressed hope that the situation in the Middle East would stabilize.

Putin witnessed the signing of an intergovernmental agreement on the legal status of the Russian museum in Jericho between Russia and Palestine. The museum is essential for the development of the political infrastructure of the Palestinian National Authority.

The Russian president will then visit Jordan and meet King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein and open the Strannopriimny House for Russian pilgrims at the place of Jesus’ baptism on River Jordan. Russia was provided with land at the site.
