Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has met with European People's Party President Wilfried Martens and discussed Georgia's European Integration in Brussels today. The influential European party is ready to assist Georgia on the road of European integration, the Georgian presidential administration told Trend on Wednesday.
The parties also stressed the importance of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia this fall in terms of democratic development.
The Georgian president assured Martens that holding these elections in the most democratic way is a point of honour for the current authorities.
"We intend to ensure full transparency of the parliamentary elections," Saakashvili said. "We invited a large number of international observers into the country, improved electoral legislation and ensured the parties' maximum accessibility to the mass media."
The Georgian president will participate in the Congress of the European People's Party on June 28, where he was personally invited by Martens.
During his visit to Brussels, Saakashvili will hold several meetings with the EU and the Council of Europe.
