Obama takes UAE's side in Abu-Musa Island dispute

US President Barack Obama has expressed support of UAE in the dispute around the islands of Abu-Musa, Lesser and Greater Tunbs with Iran, SalamNews reports.


Obama met Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayid Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi. They urged Iran to resolve the dispute peacefully.


The sides discussed the situation in Syria, peace plan of Kofi Annan, special envoy of the UN and LAS, drug control and piracy.


The island dispute of UAE and Iran has been ongoing for over 30 years. The islands are at the entrance to the Hormuz Gulf from the Persian Gulf. 30-40% oif world oil exports run through the region.
