Azerbaijan lifts criminal punishments for beating people

The Azerbaijani parliament has passed amendments, switching criminal punishments for beating people to administrative punishments, 1news.az reports.


Ali Guseynli, chairman of the parliamentary committee for legal policy and state construction, said that Article 38-1 of the Code of Administrative Violations sets a fine of 500-1000 manats for beatings. 15 days detention is an alternative punishment.


The amendments come into force on December 1, 2012.
