Former Azerbaijani president quits politics

Ex-president of Azerbaijan, co-chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (SDPA) Ayaz Mutallibov has decided to leave the party and quit politics, SDPA co-chairman Araz Alizade told Trend on Saturday.

He said Mutallibov addressed a letter in this regard to the Congress, and this document will be read out at the SDPA's 12th Congress, which opened today. According to Alizade, Mutallibov's decision will be a reason to discuss the issue of the abolition of the co-chairmanship institution in the party's structure at the Congress.

In addition, the Congress will also discuss the party's participation in the presidential elections. "The Social Democratic Party does not intend to join any political group," Alizade said.
