Turkey prolongs peacekeepers presence in Lebanon

Turkeyhas prolonged the presence of its soldiers in Lebanon as part
of the peacekeeping mission of the United Nations Interim Force in
Lebanon (UNIFIL) for another year, Anadolu reports. The decision will
come into force on September 5th.


Turkey decided to send peacekeepers on 7th September 2006, after the
end of the second war between Lebanon and Israel. UNIFIL troops have
been deployed in Lebanon since March 1978, when the Israeli army
invaded the country. After the military operation of Israel in Lebanon
in 2006, the number of servicemen was increased to 13,000.
