Former Georgian president apologizes to people of Georgia for Saakashvili

A former Georgian President, Eduard Shevardnadze, has said that he
regretted the transfer of power to current Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili, in an interview with a popular newspaper in
Tbilisi "Asaval Dasavali", ITAR-TASS reports.

Shevardnadze said that the transfer of power to Saakashvili was his
"biggest sin" in respect of Georgia and its people. "At that time
(November 2003) I had no choice but to retire early, but I am ready to
repent a thousand times and apologize to the people of Georgia for
having handed over power to Saakashvili. I admit it was a mistake
and apologize to the people," he said.
