States and insurance companies helping Iran export petroleum will have big problems in the future, economic advisor Mehrdad Emadi told Trend.
About 30% of vessels belonging to the National Petroleum Company of Iran were registered under the flags of Tanzania and the Tuvalu Island (Polynesia). They used to be sailing under the flags of Malta and Cyprus.
11 out of 39 Iranian petroleum tankers use the flags of Tuvalu, two sail under the flag of Tanzania.
The EU advisor said that every cargo ship has own number and a corresponding flag. Checking whether the number and the flag coincide take way too much time. Other flags on Iranian tankers are illegal, the official goes on.
Tanzania said that it would investigate the problem. The US has recently said that Tanzania may face sanctions unless the problem is resolved in the nearest future.
