New Libyan government proposes Sharia norms

Spokesman of the National Transitional Council of Libya Saleh Darhub proposes new Sharia laws to be adopted in the country, Interfax reports.

The official said in Tripoli on Thursday that Sharia should become the basis for state legislature. They should not be adopted through a referendum.

Libyans will have their first votes since King Idris, who lost power to Colonel Muammar Gaddafi in 1969.

Libyans will need to choose 200 MPs for the constitutive meeting, commission for composition of the new Constitution and to determine the role of Islam.
