Ashton expresses concerns over militarization of conflict in Syria

"The danger of a full-scale civil war has become more real," the EUhead of diplomacy, Catherine Ashton, said after a meeting in Paris ofthe so-called "Friends of Syria" group, RIA Novosti reports.The head of EU diplomacy urged the UN Security Council to take thenecessary measures to implement a plan for a peaceful settlement ofthe conflict in Syria, proposed by the special envoy of the UnitedNations Kofi Annan, as well as the "road map", which was agreed uponat an international conference last Saturday in Geneva.Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia didnot consider any further meetings on the Syrian crisis necessary afterthe June 30 conference in Geneva.
