Spain will open an embassy in Azerbaijan, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Gonzalo de Benito Sekades said on his visit to Azerbaijan today, Trend reports.
He said the opening of the embassy will play a crucial role in terms of relations between the two countries.
"We are advocates of an early opening of a Spanish Embassy in Azerbaijan. This issue was discussed at meetings held in Baku," he said.
He noted that Spain will close its embassies in Africa and some European countries.
Sekades has invited the Azerbaijani side to participate in an international exhibition to be held in October 2012 in Madrid.
