Opposition deputy wounded in clash with police during protest in Turkey

A deputy from the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) received head wounds today after being injured while protesting with other demonstrators against authorities’ urban renewal plans in front of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Hurriyet reports.

Mahmut Tanal had joined others to decry the plans for urban transformation when violence erupted between the protesters and the police, daily Radikal reported.

An unidentified number of protesters were taken into custody following the clash.
