Morningstar to take oath as US Ambassador to Azerbaijan on July 20

Richard Morningstar will take the oath as the new US Ambassador to Azerbaijan on July 20, 1news.az reports.

Morningstar was approved as the Ambassador on June 29. US Charge d’Affaires Adam Sterling said in early July that the ambassador was preparing to arrive in Baku.

The ambassador’s position became vacant with the departure of Ambassador Matthew Bryza in early 2012. US President Barack Obama announced plans to appoint Morningstar in late April.

The Committee for Foreign Affairs of the Senate held talks in June, where Morningstar noted that he would actively work with the OSCE Minsk Group and Azerbaijani government to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The 67-year-old diplomat used to be the Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy.
