Turkey has blocked around 4,400 websites in 2012

Turkey has blocked access to over 4,400 websites so far this year, ITAR-TASS reports.

Most of the websites were blocked by the Turkish Directorate for TV Communications. This includes over 17,000 resources.

Only 9% of 20,000 websites were blocked by courts and prosecutors. This includes the VKontakte social website of Russia, blocked on May 5, 2012.

Turkey is blocking Twitter and blogs of RedHack (a group hacking police and state servers).
