Russia to veto resolution allowing military action in Syria

 

Russian representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin said that Russia plans to use the veto right against the resolution project that allows military intervention in Syria. Churkin added that such decision would be made if article 7 of the UN Charter is mentioned, NEWS.am report.

Churkin emphasized that Russia presented own resolution project to the UN Security Council allowing the monitoring mission in Syria to continue. His Chinese counterpart Li Baodung said that China wants the monitoring mission to continue as well.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov commented on the meeting of Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and special envoy of the UN and LAS Kofi Annan. Gatilov clarified that Annan approves extension of the monitoring mission that ends on July 21.
