Ship carrying helicopters for Syria disappears from online maps

Alaed, a ship carrying Mi-25 combat helicopters for Syria, has been unavailable for AIS monitoring for 12 hours, RIA Novosti reports.

Femco chief said that Alaed will arrive in Saint-Petersburg in late July. It shut the AIS system down at about 7 pm in Baltiysk. It shut the system down on July 16 and turned it on on July 17.

The ship made a stop at Scotland on June 18, because Standard P&I Club (a structure of Charles Taylor and Co Ltd) called its insurance off. The ship had to return to Murmansk and change its flag to Russia.

Alaed is a dry-cargo vessel built in 2010. It is 122 meters long with a deadweight of 9,000 tons, speed of 12 knots.

Femco has been servicing oil and gas fields in Sakhalin since 2004. Sakhalin-2 is one of its projects. The company is headquartered in Moscow. It has 13 ships.
