Hague Tribunal starts Georgia vs. Saakashvili case

 

The Hague Tribunal has started the Georgia vs. Saakashvili case initiated by lawyer Shalva Khachapuridze in autumn 2010, Vzglyad reports.

Khachapuridze plans to bring additional materials on opposition crackdown of May 26, 2011. He also reminds about the harmful war of August 2008.

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili will face two Belgian lawyers of Merab Bladadze, a member of the Resistance Movement.

The process starts in the light of the upcoming parliamentary elections in October.

Bladadze blamed Saakashvili for crackdowns of opposition on November 7, 2007, and May 26, 2011, falsification of presidential elections in 2008, murders of young people, tortures of convicts, repressions of opposition.

Saakashvili may become a persona non grata and be banned from the headquarters of NATO and the EU. Georgia has 93 political convicts, 19 of whom are prisoners of conscience.
