Russia will vote for the Pakistani resolution on Syria, extending the supervision mission by 45 days, at the UN Security Council, Russian representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin said on Thursday, ITAR-TASS reports.
The UN Supervision Mission in Syria expires on July 21. Western states propose extension of the mission and additional sanctions against Damascus. Russia and China will veto it.
Russia proposes extension of the mission by 3 months. The fate of the resolution will be resolved at 6 pm today. Churkin wants to use resolution 2043 as the basis to extend the mission.
The UK demands Damascus to withdraw heavy tanks from cities and stop violence. Western states will most likely vote for that resolution, as hinted by US representative Susan Rice.
