On July 20 the federal government of Germany openly criticized the so-called “presidential elections” in occupied Nagorno-Karabakh, Vestnik Kavkaza reports. During a press conference, a journalist of Die Welt, Torsten Ungholt, asked Dierk Augustin, press secretary of the German Foreign Ministry, whether the government of Germany shares the position of the High Commissioner of the EU on Foreign Affairs Catharine Ashton that “elections” in Nagorno-Karabakh are illegal.
The press secretary of the German Foreign Ministry said: “We do not recognize Nagorno-Karabakh or the illegal elections there. The federal government agrees with Catherine Ashton.”
