Vladimir Ulanovsky, the mayor of Krymsk, which was worst affected by the 7 July flooding, and a few more officials have been detained on charges of negligence causing the death of citizens, The Voice of Russia cites a source in the Russian Investigative Committee as saying.
The death toll from the flooding stands at over 170, 150 of whom are in Krymsk alone.
Some sources say that the alarm signal was sent 3 hours before the water hit the town but the alarming system failed.
Food waters caused by torrential rains ripped through the town in the early hours of July 7, inundating more than 7,000 houses and killing over 170 people.
