EU improves control over transport heading to Syria

On Monday the foreign ministers of 27 members of the EU adopted additional measures on fulfillment of the embargo on arms' exports to Syria, RIA Novosti reports.

According to new agreements, the EU is establishing a new order for examining ships and aircraft which might be suspected of exporting arms to Syria. Now every EU country is obliged to undertake such examinations in case of suspicion that a ship going through its territorial waters is bringing forbidden cargo to Syria. The same rule concerns cargo airplanes which arrive at EU airports or depart from them.
