Istanbul will host a new round of talks on the Iranian nuclear program attended by Ali Bageri, Deputy Secretary of the Iranian Supreme Council of National Security, and Helga Schmidt, Deputy High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Interfax reports.
Moscow hosted the previous round of talks of five permanent members of the UNSC and Germany (the six mediators) with Iran on July 18-19.
Experts have already met. Schmidt and Bageri will meet later, followed by a meeting of Daid Jalili, Secretary of the Iranian Supreme Council of National Security, and Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
The six mediators are persuading Iran to stop enriching uranium to 20%, close the Fordo enrichment facility and transport uranium enriched to 20% from Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said in the UAE that Iran was ready to discuss the nuclear program. He confirmed Iran’s insistence on keeping 20%-enriched uranium for the nuclear reactor in Tehran, used for production of medical equipment.
