Azerbaijan calls flights to Khankendi violation

Azerbaijan says that all foreign flights through its territory need permission, Trend reports.

The statement was made in response to Armenia’s plans to start exploitation of the Khankendi Airport in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The OSCE Minsk Group urges the sides of conflict to avoid violence. Azerbaijan approves the idea. ICAO and ICAC support Azerbaijan in the issue.

Flights to Khankendi without Azerbaijani permission will be considered a violation of Azerbaijani aerospace. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan promised to be the first passenger flying from Khankendi.

Spokesman of AZAL (Azerbaijani Airlines) Magerram Safarli said that Armenia does not have the right to exploit the Khankendi Airport. No convention or organization, including ICAO, has given permission to use it.
