Operation Law and Order conducted in Kazakhstan

Operation Law and Order is currently being conducted in the Kazakh city of
Zhanaozen, where in December 2011 there were riots, Interfax reports
referring to the head of the regional department of internal affairs,
Meyrhan Zhamanbaev.

Zhamanbaev said that the police will conduct work against relatives of
those who had been arrested as a result of 2011 riots and try to
convince people to gather together at the city square. Every day the
town is patrolled by 200 military.

Previously, family members who disagree with the verdicts to the
participants of the December riots announced that they were going to
hold rallies at the central square of Zhanaozen. After this
information appeared, the army entered in the city. In early June,
organizers of the riots were sentenced to various prison terms,
ranging from 4 to 7 years of imprisonment.
