Russian president signs bill on banned websites

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed the bill on registry of banned websites. The document will be implemented on 1 November 2012, RBC reports.

The Federal Service for Surveillance of Communications and Information Technologies will blacklist websites. Owners of websites will have a day to remove any illegal content on their websites.

The bill was considered in its first reading on 6 July. The Federation Council passed it on 18 July. Many experts said that such a bill is in fact internet censorship. Wikipedia, Yandex, Afishi, Rambler, Mail.Ru Group, Google and other internet companies protested against the bill.
