US Deputy Secretary of State for Southern and Central Asia Robert Blake said that Barack Obama’s administration has requested Congress to increase military financing for Central Asia in 2013, Asia-Plus reports.
Blake said in his report to the congressional subcommittee for European and Eurasian states last week that $6 million had been granted to Central Asia in military financing and $3 million for military training in 2011.
The budget request of the White House for 2013 was made in February. Financing for the whole of Central Asia was unchanged, while military financing of Tajikistan increased from $800,000 in 2012 to $1.5 million in 2013.
