US president orders intelligence services to support Syrian rebels

US President Barack Obama has ordered the CIA and other intelligence services to support opposition to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, RIA Novosti reports.

Opposition will be supported from a secret base in Adan in the southern part of Turkey. The base was established by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The US base in Injirlic is nearby.

Families in Saudi Arabia and Qatar are donating money to fight Assad.

White House spokesman Tommy Vitor made no comments.

A CIA group is operating in Turkey. It provides weapons to Syrian rebels through Turkey. The Muslim Brotherhood helps in the process.

The Free Syrian Army received 20 anti-missile complexes from Turkey.

The main confrontation is currently taking place in Aleppo.

The conflict in Syria has been ongoing since March 2011, despite the peace plan of UN special envoy Kofi Annan implemented in mid-April. The UN says that over 16,000 people have died. Syrian authorities say that they face well-armed opposition supported by foreign states. Russia and China fear that the resignation of Assad would escalate the conflict.
