Putin and Cameron to discuss Syria today

British Prime Minister David Cameron and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet in London today in order to discuss the Syrian crisis, The Telegraph reports on Thursday.

There was concern earlier this year when, shortly after his return to the presidency, Mr Putin failed to turn up to a G8 summit hosted by United States President Barack Obama.

Since then, tensions between Moscow and the West have grown over Syria, with Russia blocking a series of efforts at the United Nations to stop President Assad's bloody crackdown on his people.

President Putin's last visit to London in 2005 was followed by a sudden cooling in relations between the UK and Russia following the murder a year later in a London hotel of Alexander Litvinenko, a suspected Russian spy.

On the verge of the Olympics, several British lawmakers demanded that Putin should not be allowed to travel to the UK due to severe human rights violations in Russia.
