Spanish police detain 2 Russians as al-Qaeda terrorists

Spanish police have detained three men suspected of belonging to an al-Qaeda terrorist group in the city of La Linea de la Concepcion in the south of the country, the Voice of Russia cites the Spanish Interior Ministry as saying on Thursday.

According to the Interior Ministry, two of the suspects come from the Russian North Caucasian Republic of Chechnya and one is a citizen of Turkey. They went through a course of training in al-Qaeda training camps in Asia. During their arrest, the police confiscated explosives and poison.

Spain is the country where Al-Qaeda committed its bloodiest crime in Europe. In March 2004, 191 people were killed by four bombs that exploded on suburban trains in Madrid.
