100 million tons of crude and petrol pass through the Turkish Straits every year. Common steps are being taken for the security of straits. Precautions for securing the straits will be taken up with international firms on the 1st of July in Istanbul.
A meeting entitled ''Transit Security and the Environment in the Turkish Straits'' took place in Ankara, hosted by Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz. The meeting focused on the talks to be held and precautions to be taken with international companies. Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said the rights enshrined in the Montreaux Agreement would be safeguarded and risks will be reduced to an absolute minimum.
