Israeli president arrives in Greece

Israeli President Israeli President Shimon Peres has arrived at the palace of Greek President Karolos Papoulias. Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras attended their meeting, RIA Novosti reports.

Peres plans to discuss hydrocarbons of the Eastern Mediterranean and gas transportation to Europe. Greece may transit gas from the Middle East to Europe.

The Israeli leader will discuss the revolution in Syria against its President Bashar al-Assad.

The visit will continue until August 9. Peres will visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Jewish community, the Idra Island in the Aegean Sea.

Greece and Turkey started improving relations in 2010, after the attack of Israel on the Freedom Flotilla of Turkey trying to break into Gaza. Papoulias visited Israel in July 2011. Israel and Greece had joint military drills.
