Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili met with his Personal
Representative in Kakheti, Levan Bezhashvili, and deputy governor of the
region, George Sibashvili, to hear their reports on the progress of
reconstruction works in Kakheti.
The president said that he specifically went by helicopter to the Kakheti
region to examine the affected area. According to the statement of
Mikheil Saakashvili, the population should receive compensation by the
first week of September. In public institutions of higher education, students
from the affected areas will be exempt from tuition fees.
In Eastern Georgia, 17,000 families were affected by the disaster.
