Former NATO Secretary General Javier Solana and former President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari are the two candidates to replace UN and LAS special envoy for Syria Kofi Annan, RIA Novosti reports on Thursday.
Other candidates are former Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Moratinos and an unnamed Malasian official.
Annan’s resignation on August 31 was announced last week. He said in Geneva that his mission in Syria had received little support.
The peace plan of Kofi Annan in Syria was adopted in April. However, reports on armed incidents and casualties were regular even after implementation of the plan.
