Iran says its kidnapped pilgrims are alive

Tehran has denied deaths of pilgrims detained by the Free Syrian Army on August 4, Reuters reports.

48 pilgrims were detained on their way from the Damascus Airport to the Syrian capital. A video on YouTube said that they were Iranian spies. Three of the pilgrims were reported dead after 3 days.

A spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Mojtaba Ferdowsipour said that information on deaths of any of the pilgrims has not been confirmed. Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said that any former members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps among the pilgrims are retired.

Other Iranian pilgrims in Syria were kidnapped twice. Iranian pilgrims in Syria usually visit the Moscuq of Seyid Zeynab in Damascus.
