Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has appointed former health minister Wael Al-Halki as prime minister, RIA Novosti reports.
The previous PM Riyad Hijab joined opposition and escaped to Jordan together with his family.
Al-Halki became the Healthcare Minister in April 2011. He was born in Daraa in 1964. He has three sons and a daughter.
