EU urges free trial for Pussy Riot

EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton has called for a free and fair trial for Russian punk band and feminist group Pussy Riot, RIA Novosti reported yesterday.

On the same day, 120 members of the German Parliament signed a document demanding to stop the persecution of the feminist group. The document was sent to the Russian Ambassador to Germany.

Several months ago, members of Pussy Riot gathered in the Moscow Christ the Saviour Cathedral and peformed a song named "Mother of God, Take Putin Away", an action aimed at drawing public attention to the situation surrounding democracy and human rights in Russia, but believed by many to be an insult to Orthodox Christianity.
