Azerbaijan is not against Moscow renting the Gabala radar
station, but the Azerbaijani authorities believe that Moscow should take
into account the prospects of the region, the head of the department
of Foreign Affairs of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan,
Novruz Mamedov said, Interfax-Azerbaijan reports.
Mamedov noted that the Gabala region, in which the radar station is
located, has great potential for the development of tourism,
agriculture and other fields.
The radar station is owned by Azerbaijan and has been rented by Russia
since 2002. The contract expires in 2012. Azerbaijan and Moscow have
yet to agree on the terms of the new contract.
