Kurdish militants kidnap Turkish MP

A member of the Turkish parliament, Huseyin Aygun, of the Republican People’s Party was kidnapped near Tunjeli, chairman of the party Haluk Koc said, RIA Novosti reports.

The MP’s assistant and a journalist accompanying the official were left alone.

The Turkish conflict with the Kurdistan Workers' Party has been ongoing for over 25 years. The PKK demands independence. The conflict has resulted in deaths of over 45,000 people. The UN and the European Union recognize the PKK as a terrorist organization.
