Businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili’s Info 9 Channel underwent authorization on August 13 and will broadcast as a cable channel in Georgia, Georgia Online reports.
Director of the channel Manana Eliashvili said that they will offer news and shows for the audience. The head of the TV company is yet to be appointed.
According to amendments to the Georgian law on broadcasting passed on May 10, 2012, authorization is enough to launch a channel. It is a free procedure. Khatia Kurashvili, spokesman of the National Commission for Communications of Georgia, said that the channel wants satellite broadcasting. The decision on the issue will be made in a month.
The Ninth Channel TV Company founded the Info 9 Agency in May 2012. Bidzina Ivanishvili’s wife Yekaterina Khvedelidze was the founder of the Ninth Channel. Billionaire Ivanishvili is the leader of the Georgian Dream political coalition.
