Appointment of an ombudsman for nationalities in Russia may be made this year. The Ministry for Nationalities was disapproved, Izvestia reports.
Vladimir Tolstoy, a presidential advisor for national culture, and MP Gajimet Safaraliyev, chairman of the parliamentary committee for nationalities, are the two likely candidates for the position.
The ombudsman will find solutions to ethnic conflicts and react to such situations. Experts doubt that one man can resolve such global problem.
The presidential Council for Interethnic Relations was formed, according to the decree of Vladimir Putin signed on June 7.
