Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has called suspension of Syria’s membership in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) a mistake, Trend reports
The minister said at the Mecca Airport before heading to Tehran that Syria needs an opportunity to express its position before losing membership. Salehi added that suspension violates the OIC charter.
Foreign ministers of OIC states met in Jidda and decided to freeze Syria’s membership in the organization on Monday. Iran spoke out against the initiative.
OIC leaders met in Mecca and approved the initiative. They accused the Syrian government of killing thousands of peaceful citizens.
